Shopping Guide - How to go clothes shopping

I have worked in retail for 3 years and from watching female customers I have noticed some women who lack in shopping confidence. Some women struggle to shop by themselves because they do not know what will suit them or they just dislike the whole shopping experience. Personally I love shopping and even going into shops and trying on different clothes excites me however I am a shopping addict... Here are some tips that I find help when shopping in high street shops:

1. To know what suits you and not being afraid to try something new.
There are always new trends so don't be afraid to try on something a bit different. Step out of your comfort zone. If it doesn't suit you then move on to the next item. No big deal. Don't stress if an item doesn't suit you. Getting an item of clothing that suits you is all down to trial and error.

2. To get another person's honest opinion.
This does not mean asking the sales assistant! Because someone you don't know may not be honest with you and a sales assistant is trying to sell the clothes. At work I'm usually honest and if something doesn't suit a customer I will either suggest an alternative item or possibly a different size. Be honest in the nicest way possible. Ideally when shopping you should bring a friend or relative who is honest and is there to encourage you. Shopping is meant to be a fun experience, not a chore.

3. Be selective when picking up items for the fitting room
Do not bring in 11+ items to the fitting room. The amount of times I see women with arms full of clothing and then they don't end up buying anything is ridiculous. Not only will this piss off the sales assistant but it won't get you anywhere. I find the women who take in 3 or 4 items are more likely to leave the shop with more items. If you pick up 11+ items you are not really taking in to consideration what you are trying on. You have just grabbed loads of items and dashed to the fitting room. You should try on items that you are automatically drawn to; whether that be the colour, print or style. Also consider what you have at home and what it will go with. There is no point in buying an item that won't go with anything in your wardrobe. So be selective!

4. If it looks good then buy it!
Often a dress will look amazing on a woman but sometimes she will decide not to buy it. I always think "Why didn't you buy that dress?! It looked amazing" but before you know it they are out of the shop. I get really confused and can't understand why you wouldn't treat yourself if an item made you look like a million dollars. For some women it is probably down to the garment's cost which is understandable. For other women it's because it is outside their comfort zone. Sometimes it's okay to take a risk.

5. Buy clothes that make you feel confident and comfortable in your own skin.
I always encourage women to buy what makes them feel confident and comfortable. There is no point in wasting your money on an item you are not 100% in love with. That is just a waist of money. Also you will then later regret it when you see an item you love and can not afford.

6. Dress for your shape
Working in a retail shop I see all different shapes and sizes going into the fitting room. I have an hourglass shape so I tend to go for waisted garments like skater dresses or peplum tops because they accentuate my waist. I also have a big bust area and I don't always want to highlight this so I will wear more blousy tops. If an item is too tight around the bust I will go the next size up. There is no shame in going up a size in clothing. I know a lot of women who will refuse to get the next size up when they clearly need to. You should buy something that shows off your figure and makes your body look good. No one will see the size number but if you've got an item clinging in the wrong places then they will see that...

Anyways what I am trying to get across is to enjoy shopping and not to see it as a terrifying experience. Women stress to much about this and I think this has become a really big issue. We should encourage women to wear what they want and to feel good about themselves.

Red & Black Hawaiian Print

Here is a dress I have just recently purchased from Primark. I popped into Primark for just the standard bits and bobs and noticed this beautiful print. I tried it on and fell in love with it. The cut is incredibly flattering because it slightly flares out at the bottom. It is a light weight material so it is perfect for the hot weather we are currently having in the UK. I bought the size 10 which I found was a good fit. Ohh and best of all it was only £13! So definitely worth a look. Usually I would pair it with a necklace or some type of jewellery but I felt because the print was so strong it would have been too much. Enjoy!

The sunglasses are from Claire's Accessories. I don't usually shop there because it is meant for a younger target market however I've been really struggling to find sunglasses that actually suit my face shape. I found that Claire's have smaller glasses which suit my face shape and don't make me look like a bug with big eyes. The sunglasses were only £8. I prefer buying cheap sunglasses because I'm always losing them or breaking them... Also I like the aztec print which I think would be perfect for a festival look.

Miss Guided - White Lace Dress

I just bought a couple of items from Miss Guided and I fell in love with this white lace summer dress. I love skater dresses because I find the style really suits my shape. I especially like the scallop edge detail around the collar and hem of the dress. The red belt is not included.

About Me - Liebster Award

I was nominated by the lovely Patricia He for the Liebster Award. I am new to blogging so when I was nominated I had no idea what it was about. It's basically a way for bloggers to connect with other bloggers. It's a great way to get your blog out there by answering questions about yourself. It allows people to get to know you as a person. Here are the rules:

  • You must answer all 11 questions given to you by the person who nominated you.
  • You must link back to the person that nominated you.
  • After completing these questions you must nominate 11 bloggers (with under 200 followers) and give them 11 questions of your choice.
  • You can not nominate the person who nominated you.

So here we go. These were my questions and answers. Please enjoy :D Hope you guys get to know me a bit better.

Describe yourself in one word.
Blonde

What is your favorite movie to rewatch? How many times have you watch it?
Legally Blonde… Well I watched it so many times the dvd cracked.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I would go to Mexico. I went there with my mum to Cancun for a relaxing holiday. The weather was beautiful and the food was amazing. I wish I could go back. I also got to swim with dolphins. Definitely one of my happiest moments ever.

Dogs or cats?
Cats for sure! I love my cat. He’s called Tigger and is ginger.

What are your favorite types of food? Name a dish.
Love pizza and olives so definitely love Italian food.

If you could go back in time, which era would you visit?
Victorian era. I love the dresses.

What are 3 of your must have necessities?
I’m not sure what type of necessities you mean. Lifestyle or materialistic? So I shall give this question a whirl. For lifestyle necessities I definitely need food. I love food. Number two would be sleep. I would sleep forever if you left me and number three would be my friends and family naww…. I know really cheesy.

If we are talking materialistic things then I would say my phone of course. Number two would be my Mac and number three would be all of my clothes. I have so many clothes it’s ridiculous.

What is your favorite memory?
When I got my A Level results and I went out to a London club with my friend Alicia. One of my best nights out ever. We went to a circus themed club called Cirque Le Soir by Carnaby Street. I highly recommend going. I managed to get a cool picture by the black and white illusion wall. This has slightly changed since. They have repainted it into more of a box shape. Although it's still just as cool.

If you had 3 wishes, what would you wish for?
1. To get a successful job when I finish University and love what I do.
2. To get more into my blog and hopefully meet some great people through it.
3. To suddenly win a million pounds… That is a joke.

Who is your favorite super hero? Why?
I love the blonde cheerleader from the series ‘Heroes’ because she is strong and fearless.

What do you love about blogging?

It gives me an excuse for buying so many clothes without feeling guilty. Also it gives me the opportunity to take loads of photos of myself without seeming vain….

I am now nominating 11 bloggers who I honestly think are amazing and really good at what they do.

I'm a Little Magpie Part 4

This is the last post for the 'I'm a Little Magpie' photo shoot and I have made sure to save the best for last. This is probably one of my favourite statement necklaces out of all of them and would be perfect for a night out. This necklace is called Nude Peacock. It has light dusty pink feathers with beautiful gems on the top. I paired this with my black jersey midi dress. It made the necklace stand out and it almost looked like fire! Here is one of the edited photos which is shown on the 'I'm a Little Magpie' Facebook Page. If you are interested in purchasing any of the necklaces the contact details will be down below.

Nude Peacock

Bluetail

Hummingbird

The Black Swan

This necklace is stunning. To wear this necklace I wore a black plain top. The idea is to wear something neutral and simple to really make the necklace stand out.

This necklace reminded me of the Titanic necklace!

Midnight Jay

I'm a Little Magpie Part 3

I feel like calling this post minty fresh. I chose pastel colours to go with the colours in the necklaces. This was really easy for me because I love pastels and they suit my complexion so I own a lot of pastel clothes. Some of these photos are the edited ones shown on 'I'm a Little Magpie' Facebook. If you are interested in purchasing any of these necklaces the contact details will be down below.

What I love about this jumper is the colour and the lacy edge. The colour makes it appropriate for the summer and also it's also a light weight knit so it wasn't too bad in the heat. It goes great with the necklace because there it picks up on the mint gems but then makes the pink gems stand out. What I liked about this particular necklace was the pink ribbon with a clasp for the fastening. So you get the aesthetic look whilst still being practical.

My light jeans gave me the perfect opportunity for me to wear my jelly shoes again. I like these jeans because of the light blue shade. Also I have incredibly short legs and River Island offer a shorter leg length which is great for people like me!

Necklace - I'm a Little Magpie

This mint necklace went perfectly with the mint blazer. I paired it with the white top to keep with the sorbet palette. I bought the blazer from New Look about a year ago and it's one of my favourites. I went into New Look the other day and they have got one almost identical. The only different is the blazer has a waterfall front. There is also another one in the sale without the waterfall front however it is slightly longer and not many are left.

I'm a Little Magpie Part 2

This is my second post of the 'I'm a Little Magpie' photo shoot. The pictures were taken in Kingston Upon Thames by the river. The weather was so beautiful and we managed to capture some lovely photos over the bridge. If you are interested in purchasing any of the necklaces the contact details will be down below.

The Pink Swan:

Jasmine:

The Jasmine necklace reminded me of Jasmine from Aladdin. I have a slight obsession with disney films so this made me incredibly happy.

The shorts from Oasis do come in other colours and there is also a matching top for this exact pair of shorts. If you are interested in purchasing any necklaces from 'I'm a Little Magpie' you can contact them through:
